Teaching To and Measuring For Creativity

HIGHLIGHTS SUMMARY

Highlights were that we ended with the same question that we started with and that was “Can Creativity be accurately and meaningfully measured?”  However, by consensus we felt it was important to have a shared definition and set of expectations for what we value about creativity and possibly expand the definition to other attributes/competencies such as problem solving, communication, research, self-directed learning, collaboration, and global citizenship.  This would allow a K-12 system to send a consistent message and potentially mark progress against measurable outcomes.

I shared a project I designed and implemented this past year in WWP that attempted to have students solve an open ended complex problem and then present to an outside audience that would assess their creative and practical problem solving skills along with their ability to communicate effectively.
